Natsuki Takaya is her pen name, her real name is unknown to the public. She was
born on July 7th, 1973 in Shizuoka, then was raised and lives in Tokyo. Since she
was born July 7th, which co-incidentally is Tanabata (Festival of the Weaver) a
prayer ceremony for the artistic development of children; this also makes her a Cancer.
She had dreams of being a manga-ka since she was a child in elementary school.
She worked hard and followed her dream.
She spends most of her time playing video games such as the Final Fantasy series or
Sakura Wars, or working on Fruits Basket, which has recently become the top selling
shojo manga in North America. Fruits Basket has also been adapted into a 26 episode
anime series.
According to Takaya (in a sidebar of a Fruits Basket manga volume), she enjoys
drawing girls more than she does boys. Takaya also enjoys electronics and music,
but dislikes talking about herself. Also revealed in a sidebar of Fruits Basket,
Takaya had broken her left arm (the one she draws with) after Fruits Basket vol. 6.
She had to go into surgery, and as a result, put Fruits Basket in a brief hiatus.
Takaya had a full recovery, but (amusingly) complains that her handwriting had gotten
uglier, due to the surgery.
The series she has worked on to date are as follows:
Gen'ei Musō, 1994 - 1997
Tsubasa o Motsu Mono, 1995 - 1998 ("Those With Wings")
Boku ga Utau to Kimi wa Warau kara, 1998, short story collection ("Because When I Sing, You Smile")
Fruits Basket 1998 - 2006
